Laguna Fusion I Table Saw

Dust Collection

It's very important to connect the 4“ dust collection hose to the table saw when using. Using the collector and keeping the saws internal hose clear greatly reduces the amount of saw dust that escapes. When cutting you should not see much dust at the back side of the blade. If you do and the Bauer vacuum is running, check to make sure the internal hose is not clogged.

NOTE: It's important to start the big red Bauer dust collector before starting the table saw, due to power draw. The table saw can plug into the same extension cord as the Bauer unit.

Excess saw Dust

There should be very very little to no saw dust expelled from the far side of the blade when cutting. There is an internal dust collector hose that works real well to prevent this from happening. However, on occcasion this internal host can become clogged if someone uses the saw without the dust vac or wood chips fall though the throat plate. If you see excessive dust being thrown out the far side, fist remove the throat plate to see if there is an obvious clog that can be removed from above. If that is not the case most likley the clog is futher down the hose and the hose needs to be cleared.

The following video will show how to access the hose. One does not need to change the hose unless it is damaged, which is unlikely.

Blade Removal/Cleaning

A couple of members asked questions or needed info on how to remove/replace the table saw blade. The following video is a good illustration even though there is no sound

NOTE: One needs to be careful when removing the arbor nut and washer so as to not drop it into the saw. If one does fall in it must be retrieved for reinstallation. If the nut or washer fall far enough into the internals that it travels down the internal dust collection hose the video above will show you how it can be recovered.

**NOTE: It is imperative that the outer washer be placed between the blade and the arbor nut. Failure to do so will result in a wobbling blade, which can be dangerous.“

How to clean your blades

A poor or difficult cut may simply be because the blade is dirty and needs to be cleaned or perhaps it's just dull and needs to be sharpened or replaced. The following videos should help determine if the blade is dull and how to clean it. Refer to above for blade removal details.

The generally recommended non-toxic blade cleaner should be citrus based. In the shop we have CMT Orange 2050 but there are other formulations that may also work. If the blade if badly contaminated it make take several cycles of spray/soak/clean to remove all of the residue.

Dado Cuts

The dado set in the woodshop is a Diablo 8” Stacked Dado set. This is a Diablo set-up and configuration guide. It attempts to show you which parts of the stack to use to achieve a certain width cut.

The videos below do a good job describing the set up and use. A couple of local notes:

  1. The table saw arbor is not long enough to accomodate installation of the entire dado stack. You must leave enough threads available to properly install the arbor nut.
  2. A video may tell you the outer washer is optional, its not. You will encounter some blade wobble if you leave it off. Please don't leave it off.
  3. The dado set inner blade is a bit difficult to get it to seat properly. But it must seat tightly against the built in inner arbor washer. Any gap between the blade and the inner washer is not acceptable. Leaving the gap is just inviting extra danger.
  4. If your going to be cutting rabbits on the fence side of your work you must use a sacrificial fence to avoid damaging the blades and the fence. See the video below for details on how to make a sacrificial fence if one is not currently available.

A couple of videos on how to install/use a dado set. They each have their merits

The previous video mentioned making a sacrificial fence. It's a very good idea if you are going to make rabbit cuts on the fence side of your material. Failure to do so can result in left material on your workpiece or a damaged fence. An added benefit of this particular fence addition is that it makes it much easier to clamp on an upper feather board to help keep your work piece from riding up when cutting dados.

Outfeed Table

There is now an outfeed table permanently attached to the Laguna table saw. It's a homemade affair that still needs a few tweaks and mods.

Below you will find a few pictures detailing how to set up the outfeed table.

The table has a single non adjustable sliding leg that holds the table in the extended position. This may be modified in the future if we find it does not adequately do the job for us.

This leg assembly has three locking positions on the leg located on the underside.

  1. Stowed Position where the entire leg is tucked up out of the way so the table will fold down
  2. Leg retraction lock to lock the extendable portion of the leg in the stowed position so it does not slip down when dropping the outfeed
  3. Leg extended lock to lock the extendable portion in the extended position to hold the outfeed up for use when processing larger pieces.

Saw Blade Cleaning

Supplies:

– CMT Formula 2050 - pump spray

– Bostic Glidekote - can spray

– soft scrubbing sponge, 3M Green Scotch-Brite pad

– soft clean drying cloth

Clean the blade
  • Spray on the CMT, let soak a bit,
  • scrub blade with something not to harsh so as to damage the finish, sponge or 3M pad
  • wipe off dry with clean cloth.
  • repeat if needed.
  • wipe off well and then spray on the Bostic GlideKote
  • let dry a few seconds and wipe off GlideKote
