It's very important to connect the 4“ dust collection hose to the Miter saw when using. Using the collector will greatly reduce the amount of saw dust and that escape. At this point not all of the dust will get collected. But every little bit does help.

NOTE: It's important to start the big red Bauer dust collector before starting the Miter saw, due to power draw. The saw can plug into the same extension cord as the Bauer unit.
