Design/Machine Your Project
The Design
There are 2 software interactions required in order to create a CNC project, design software and machining software.
First, of course you must either design your own custom project or find an existing design you would like created. For this you can use one of several available design software packages, Vetric Vcarve, Carbide 3D Create, and many others. Most any design package that can generate appropriate CNC G-Code will most likely work. Whatever you chose, design your project, generate the G-Code and load that into the machine software.
For project design and G-Code generation the software used in TheLab is the Vectric Vcarve Pro Makerspace edition. There are two version of this Vcarve Pro Makerspace edition. For further information refer to the Design Software portion of this wiki
The Machining/Carving
The second software is the product that executes the required commands to actually manipulate the CNC machine, driving it to create your project. For this TheLab Makerspace uses Carbide 3D's Carbide Motion software to drive the Shapeoko Pro XXL machine. The idea here is to use a design tool to generate the required G-Code and then bring that to Carbide Motion for actual execution.
