Membership Meeting Summary - August 2025

The membership meeting is for members to catch up on projects.
Members have been working on projects such as sewing, woodworking, laser crafts, and metalwork. Brady made cards for his church's kids.
A member made a ring box. Another member made a pen using a design from “bearded printer” on Twitch on an A1 mini printer.
A member is offering broken Corian countertops and a molded double Corian sink for public use. It was noted that this material should not be used with the laser cutter because it contains aluminum hydroxide, which creates fine aluminum dust when lasered.
The lathe station is getting an upgrade with a new handle and two new carbide blades.
Two pressure pots were brought in for public use. They hold pressure for over 24 hours. The regulators are set to 45 PSI and should not be adjusted for safety. They also include a urethane piece for a vacuum chamber.

A member is frustrated with the space's cleanliness, specifically overflowing woodshop trash cans and people not putting things away. A suggestion was made to cut wood sticks shorter to fit in the trash.
The restrooms have issues again. A screwdriver is now in the men's room to allow members to adjust the toilet valves to prevent water waste.
A third party is filling the dumpster on weekends, preventing members from using it.
The table saw's new dust collection system is improved, but airflow escapes from a front slot. A member plans to work on this and other table saw issues.
The air compressor for the pressure pots is not working, but a different one was used successfully.

The organization needs a new location in or near Richardson, Texas, between 2,000 and 4,000 square feet. The current lease ends soon, and the landlord might double the rent if a new space isn't found by November.
A commercial broker named Greg is helping with the search at no cost to the organization.
The preference is to stay east of highway 75 to keep the location familiar to members and to distinguish the space from other maker spaces.
A move might require an increase in member dues to cover higher costs.
The group is working on two projects for UT Dallas's Epics program: a filament press to recycle old filament and a tabletop vacuum former.
A member suggested hosting an open house at the new location, possibly on Small Business Saturday, to attract new members and showcase projects.
