Board Meeting Minutes Summary: July 12th

Meeting Clarification and Motions

• The leadership meeting time following the monthly membership meeting will serve as an official board meeting to ensure regular voting opportunities.
• Motion 1 (Passed): Nicole will take over as area host for Fiber Lab (Stitch Lab) due to her dedication. The motion passed with four attending board members voting in favor.
• Motion 2 (Passed): A free month of membership will be granted to Simone for generously lending the long-arm quilting machine. The motion passed with four votes.

New Board Member and Roles

• John has officially joined the board, pending his signature on the bylaws. He will be the new treasurer.
• The outgoing treasurer, Bob, will assist with the transition.
• Tim is the new president.
• The previous president expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve.

Financials

• The current financial balance is $19,300.
• Last month saw approximately $1,100 in new member income, but expenses were higher due to rent and insurance ($2,500 for insurance).
• The goal is to be financially stable with $25,000 in the bank and a reserve of $5,000 to $10,000 for large purchases or repairs.

Facilities Updates

• Clean-up Day: A clean-up day was highly successful, with 15-20 people participating. The facility is now much cleaner, and an estimated 1.5 to 2 tons of material were moved or disposed of.
• Heavy Equipment: Three heavy pieces of equipment were moved: the Bridgeport, the laser, and the new CNC.
• Laser Table: The laser table is now perfectly flat.
• Ventilation: The exhaust problem in the front of the laser is still pending a solution.
• Signage: The organization is looking into acquiring proper signage.
• Electronics Flip-flop: The electronics area has been reorganized.
• Guest Check-in and Showcase: A dedicated guest check-in area is being set up for sign-ups, billing, and information. A showcase area will be next to it.
• Robot Fund/Scavenger Hunt: The robot fund activity from Fin Con will be updated for ongoing use in the building as a “get to know your local makerspace” activity this fall.

Support and Assistance

• Doug and Chris are donating their time to finish the moving process and clear out remaining items from the yard sale.
• Members are encouraged to offer assistance to Doug and Chris if they can, as extra hands are needed.
