Board Meeting Minutes Summary: March 25th
New Membership Portal
Launch: A new membership portal site,
members.thelab.ms
, has launched this month. The old
profile.profile
URL now redirects to the new site.
Technology: This is a small Go web application with SQLite on the backend. It runs on a one-core Azure VM and consists of a few hundred lines of Go code.
Control and Stability: The organization controls all aspects of the portal, with no open-source software in the middle of the patch and minimal memory usage (less than 20MB). This ensures stability.
Open Source Potential: The goal is to generalize this tool so other makerspaces can adopt it, as there's nothing proprietary except for how it accesses the door access controller (which will change with the custom stack) and some embedded branding that needs to be abstracted out.
Texas Beyblade League Partnership
Agreement: A “gentleman's agreement” has been reached with the Texas Beyblade League. The league is happy with the arrangement, and the makerspace is satisfied with the initial terms.
First Event: Their first event is likely to be mid-April.
Session Details: Events will typically be one weeknight and one weekend night, with three-hour sessions and a maximum of 12 participants.
Member Participation: Members are welcome to observe the sessions.
Activities: The league will not be conducting any league activities within the makerspace; it's focused on 3D printing.
New Education Coordinator
Appointment: Kimber has been unanimously appointed as the new Education Coordinator. The board will update the wiki to reflect this.
Onboarding: Discussions will follow to clarify the role's meaning and responsibilities, including setting up Gmail access and other orientation tasks.
Financial and Legal Reminders
Postcard 990: There are 30 days remaining to file the postcard 990. The organization needs to ensure this is done correctly, potentially reviewing past filing procedures.
Relocation Notification: Once the organization moves, three bodies (likely government or regulatory agencies) will need to be notified.
